New York Times, LED Bulbs

Nearly 80% of the population doesn't know that incandescent bulbs will have all been replaced by 2012.A law passed requires bulbs to be 30% more efficient starting that year. Industry is looking towards LED bulbs to replace the curren incandescent bulbs that are currently in place. These bulbs last more than 15 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs also are much more energy efficient. A LED bulb can produce the same amount of light with 8 watts of electricity as a normal 40-watt bulb. This technology has a large impact on our society.  These bulbs will also help our environment by simply being more energy efficient. Within a year sales of LED bulbs are expected to raise from 120 million dollars to 200 million dollars, showing an obvious economic effect of the technology.
